Pictou
(PICK 2) Nova Scotia
The
Northumberland Strait was not as nice to us on this crossing – the winds wiped
up some nasty waves for the first couple of hours but thankfully calmed down
before we entered the rivers at Pictou on the Nova Scotia side. While some have
been disappointed in this stop, we found plenty to do with our afternoon here –
charmed by the colorful buildings, interesting (fisheries) lobster museum and
pipers on parade. The docks are basic
but convenient to the town filled with friendly people and throngs of visitors
out enjoying the sunny weather. The bald
eagle greeting party on the jetty also made a great first impression.
Pictou
is the port that welcomed many of the first Scottish new comers to the
territory, and the harbor is dominated by the replica of the Hector a Dutch
ship that brought one of the first groups from Scotland.
