Murals of the Erie
Canal
As we have traveled the
Erie, we have occasionally noticed murals along the canal or on buildings
nearby. Apparently they are part of a
program to promote the canal. I include
a few shots – the most extensive murals were at Newark where the entire bridge
and visitor center complex was painted with information boards and scenes from
the history of the canal. The others were one or more flat panels with
decorative scenes. Oh yes, we also
learned that those “horses” were supposed to be “mules” depicting the mules
that pulled the earliest canal barges. Opps – showing our lack of horse-sense!
