Good Bye Cumberland
hello Tennessee
Our last days on the
Cumberland River and Lake Barkley included revisiting Dover Island and hanging
out in Eddy Creek. Both were quiet peaceful spots even though in Eddy Creek large
impressive homes overlooked our anchorage. However, even mid-week there were
bass boats and fishermen everywhere. Thankfully they head home at dark so
nights were calm. Fog in the creek made for a late start, but then our short
hop to Pisgah Bay only needed a few hours.
Pisgah is at mile 30 on Kentucky Lake formed by the Kentucky dam on the
Tennessee River. We had walked over to view the dam from Green Turtle Bay
Marina so when we glided through the channel connecting these two lakes, we
were prepared for the wide sweep of water. (Lake Barkley in comparison was a
narrow winding river compared to the vast Kentucky Lake.) We stopped at Pisgah
because of the famed graffiti on the quarry walls. Well, it is said to be more
art graffiti than the typical “Mary loves John” messages. Our photos do not
convey the scope of this place which we visited by dinghy from our anchorage
around the corner. We are posting a few of the more creative efforts for your
enjoyment. From Pisgah Bay we cruised south on the lake to Paris Landing State
Park Marina for a few days on power and cable TV – perfectly timed it to pick up
the Saturday and Sunday football games! A few walks in the park balance the TV
time…. And Steve had an opportunity to change the oil once again while I made
bread. This beautiful spot is not close to shopping, but we did walk over to
the Inn for dinner which was packed on this long holiday weekend.
Reading about the New Madrid earthquake in the early 1800s and wandering if all the tilted rocks were caused by this long series of tremors?
Great blog !! Nice meeting you . Thanks for the boat tour. Have fun.
