Canadian Hospitality

Canadian Hospitality
A highlight of our travels on the Rideau was our visit to Pat and Ruth’s Ottawa home.  A few blogs back we mentioned meeting these hardy paddlers at the bottom of Merrickville Locks.  They graciously offered to pick us up from the docks in Ottawa and show us their home in the nearby suburb of Kanata.  Since we needed an electric cord to use the dock hydro they also stopped at a well-stocked ship store for our pressing needs.  Then we toured their garden and neighborhood – growing things seems to be a Canadian natural talent!

We mostly relaxed and enjoyed barbequed chicken and garden fresh green beans with appropriate adult beverages. Although we have met scores of wonderful people, it is always a special treat to see the country beyond the waterway so we are truly grateful to Ruth and Pat for sharing their time and home with us.  As an added bonus, Ruth hooked me up with her hairdresser for a master cut – also hard to find while with the constant travel. All ten of my hairs thank her profoundly.
