Rockport MA

Rockport MA

Rounding Cape Ann, we glided into the harbor at Rockport MA. This town should probably have been named Granitetown since that was its early claim to fame. The ample supply of the tough rock has been used to create massive walls to protect the inner harbor where the gracious Harbor Master allowed us to tie up our dinghy for a walk in their historic town.  We strolled the famous Bear Skin Neck – now a crowded tourist mecca of shops and eateries – still an interesting afternoon stroll.  We also walked out to the old granite quarry and dock just west of our spot in the outer harbor.

Granite may have built the town, but today it is an art colony with many fine art galleries as well as a vibrant music scene. The famous Motif #1 is the handsome red building overlooking the inner harbor - a spot worthy of artistic endeavors
Rockport is a pleasant and welcoming stop for cruisers
