Spook Season

Electron Gremlins

Now we are not whining since on a boat it always seems the next “issue” is just around the corner. We live with the expectation that the next breakdown can happen at any time.  But, in this season of spooks, we have been having bizarre electrical visitations.  Some like the still not functioning recently replaced depth sounder on our lower helm defy even the techs at Raymarine, but a few seem other worldly.  For example, twice the DVD player just stopped. All the lights went off and it would not eject.  The VHS in the same machine, however, continued to work and have power? A few days later, it suddenly had power again so we started another DVD and it also stopped midway through…..  Now the microwave has power and lights, but none of its buttons work. They functioned just fine last time we used it! The little kitchen timer just refused to work even with new batteries. Replacing the old ones on the other hand restarted it. The spare TV wouldn’t start but ten minutes later she fires up.  The laptop died – this might have been the chilly temps – because after letting it rest in front of the heater vent she finally rebooted and did some interesting scans. So far the electric toilette is working as is the heater, so we are limping along. Maybe all the spooks will leave us by the end of the month or when we reenter the magic 70 degree weather zone. Stay warm.

P.S. although not exactly electrical, the thermostat on my oven has gone crazy or is it the thermometer in the over?
